can you form a cohesive thought?
Universes are... a bit grandiose for sure, but it is kinda fun to cultivate a setting, even if you never end up using it. I know I've thought more about the settings of my abandoned adventures since I last updated them than I ever did while I was working on them. This is because overthinking something is the blight of getting that thing done and I hate it but I can't stop and

uh

I'm not sure where I was going with that (nor do I know where I'm going with this next thing.)

I think part of the reason Cube Sector and Rayman work so well is that any explanation for these things that isn't "it just is" is going to end up with something unsatisfying. "Oh well you know 10,000 years ago there was uh, an ancient civilization that lived in gigantic, flying instruments because. They were like. Music or something? So yeah and that's why band land." If you try to come up with explanations for everything you might get too bogged down in cohesiveness that all your varied environments become samey because that's what the plot dictates. It becomes, you know, a Universe.
