The thing about scum being immune to the scumkill is a hypothesis as to why there might've not been a nightkill last night.

But then, um, how would they kill anyone? I don't know, maybe it was all these hugs, um, which are, um, getting very distracting...

Here:

Suppose A and B are both in the conspiracy, and C is someone who isn't in the conspiracy; A has the ability to nightkill.

If A targets B, B might not die (under assumption of immunity) - presumably A learns that B is part of the conspiracy so they can stop attacking them in future nights.

If A targets C, C dies as a normal nightkill.
