You place the MONKEY on the side of the SCALE opposite the BLACK WEIGHT. The SCALE's tipping doesn't change at all, so you take the MONKEY back.

Put the weight directly on the table. The colors match, so obviously this will do something.

You try to remove the BLACK WEIGHT from its plate, but it just won't move. You only succeed in pulling the plate around a bit.


There are three other sides: EAST, WEST, SOUTH. Obviously if you go toward the SOUTH end you'll pass through either the EAST or the WEST side.

You pick up the SCALE easily. In so doing, it is briefly close enough to your face to notice a small vertical crack in the middle of it. It's too narrow to fit even your fingernails in, but it's there all the same.
