I suppose what so moves me about the word is that y'all works well as the subject to a predicate. Take the sentence, "Y'all need to get on the boat." Not many phrases can replace that; you have "you guys," "you folks", "all you," "you all," etc. And none of those really roll off the tongue in my opinion.
As Slorange said, this is a niche that exists in other languages, like to my knowledge, Spanish, French and German, but it's not there in English.
