I just finished another term of school, though I've only been taking what online classes I've figured out relate to my major (Illustration) and not even close to any full terms worth of classes... After graduating high school, I took a year off to relax, and then one class (math), one class (some photoshop basics class), no class, and two classes (astronomy and english).
Uh. Yeah. I know they're not much, but my focus is awful, I've gotten to the point where I can only manage one piece of homework a day, and this only barely covers the work for two classes. I can't imagine handling more classes than that.
Also online classes are handled really badly?? None of the teachers I've had so far use the online class site the same way (the math teacher didn't even use it at all) and the english teacher didn't follow her own schedule and she kept assigning essays two days before they were due (meaning we only got the instructions two days before they were due) and it was awful. And I can't even really tell dad why this class was so bad because the first time she did that it caught me off guard and I thought I missed something, and dad yelled at me for not paying attention, but then haha whoops it turns out the whole class was like that and there wasn't really anything I could do about it
also I can only really take online classes right now because I can't drive
so that's just the classes themselves being a pain, now take into consideration that I don't really have a job and I'm living with my dad off of his retirement money, which we're trying to not spend too much of before he can get on social security or whatever in a few years (he retired a little early).
Also he recently tested positive for prostate cancer and needs to go through a bunch of radiation therapy soon, and we're not sure how much our medical coverage is gonna cover it (especially since he decided to buy one of the cheapest ones he could find).
But when I hint to him that spending a bunch of money on college instead of having me finally look for a job to help pay for radiation therapy might not be in our best interest, he goes on a spiel about how Everything Is Second To My Education, and if I need to get a job I can just get a part time one to work around my school schedule, But Seriously College Is The Most Important Thing You Will Ever Do And If You Get A Job Please Get One At Home Depot Instead Of A Fast Food Place Because I'm A Classist Middle-Age White Guy Who Shames My Own Family For Making Decisions Years Ago That Led To Them Being Poor (i'm not even joking he literally does that and it drives me up the wall)
tldr I don't think I can handle taking classes anymore and I kinda wanna just move on with my life because I don't think a two-year community college Illustration degree is gonna help me get any jobs, not even illustration jobs, but dad disagrees and wants to keep putting me through school because he's in denial about how useless degrees are.
Ultimately it's my decision, because I'm the one who has to look up classes and apply to them and such, he just pays for them, but ugh jeez I don't know what's going to happen when he realizes I'm not going to do this anymore (and that day is coming really soon)
