Using the rules and field in this thread. (though we can just use a portion of that field if it's too big for just 4 pokemons)

We each can pick 2 pokemon of our choice, must be catchable/evolvable using just your pokeversion (Emerald for you, Sapphire for me) So nothing that requires trading to aquire, no legendaries.

We'll need someone to officiate, run dice roles and such, though if no one volunteers we could just use the honor system.

Of course we keep everything in spoilers to avoid cluttering the thread.

I'm already familiar with this rpg system though, so if you'd rather use a simpler version (or a version of your own) to carry this out, I'm game for that.

The hiking route:

Save the crazy mechanics for another day, use a 1-6 roll the dice system. Pick 3 pokemon from each respective game (legendaries allowed) to duke it out. Two critical hits/critical misses in a row results in fainting. Winner is last man standing. Bonus points for flair while battling.

The Segway Route:

We hop on that one pokebattle-sim progam (which I'm sure one of the fine people here could link us to) Six on Six. Pokemon must be from our respective games (Sapphire/Emerald). We take pictures for the audience.

Segway. Pokemon Showdown as the simulator because browser based and replay function.

I assume we'll be limited to third-gen only mechanics?
