That's a very cool idea, thank you FlanDab! It's like wild magic but it isn't mindless. I could totally envision a custom class or two rooted around Etheric Type.

Yeah. I based its entire existence on the posters. They're pseudo-entities with the capacity to influence the world.

Maybe some kind of insectoid race too?

I was a fool to neglect this. I'm probably gonna need to look into insect races that aren't just Thri-keen for this.

Some kind of arthropod race that isn't more spider people would be nice too. Scorpions* are underrated.

Most of my ideas that I throw around like hot air I don't even value enough to qualify as the worst of my good ideas. This is only like scraping the surface of the potential that the homestuck dorks could have achieved but instead they focused on literally anything that wasn't the most embarassing shit.

If you can't be bothered to commit to drawing your cool ideas, saving your disposeable income to commission artists who are insanely good at drawing arthropods and probably nothing else is usually what most people default to.

There's a force/energy that permeates all of Hawkspace called the Etheric Type. Concentrations of the Etheric Type can vary between regions. The Etheric Type has the capacity to manipulate the surroundings and physical laws somewhat by its composition. By harnessing this energy, one can make miracles happen from their very hands, but the Etheric Type itself is conscious and instead of being harnessed and manipulated, it often controls conscious beings and make them act as their agents. The Etheric Type is not directly evil, but is aligned to the goals of its agents. The Etheric Type's connection to an agent is unfortunately volatile and can easily evaporate like exposed rubbing alcohol.

I also was thinking about this outlandish lore fluff idea, about a dude who sleeps on top of the head of the Space Hawk. Because Space Hawk and Time Eagle both never sleep while travelling through a timeless, aspatial void they need a middleman to do the sleeping for them. So they got this gross naked Homunculus to literally absorb all their sleep deprivation and eternally just snooze. This also means that all his dreams are the Hawks and Eagles dreams too, and they come to live in the form of all kinds of weird junk, from magic artefacts that disappear to horrid monsters to new islands.

This is mostly shaping up to be a "by the seat of your pants" setting, anyways:

I figured the naked sleepy mans bad dreams would be this settings equivalent to Neutral Evil Outsiders, not quite Yugoloths/Daemons but drawing from the same principles of causing indiscriminate evil. They'd be a diverse bunch and limited only by the observant imagination of the Time Eagle who does not always catch all the details of the Hawkspace islands it glances upon. The Space Hawk only ponders about shitposting on a computer, so his dreams are more goofy. When SpaceHawk dream creatures come about they are predisposed towards Chaotic Neutrality but there is nothing to stop an alignment shift in their nature, because as Chaotic beings they have more capacity towards free will. Consequently these dream creatures are slaves to their whims if they choose to commit to a purely Chaotic lifestyle.

It should be noted that despite the alignment of both the "Hawk-Eagle nightmares" (place holder name for the NE Outsiders) and the CN dream creatures. Both the Space Hawk and Time Eagle are True Neutral, concerned only with each other as spouses tend to be. Both the birds would occupy the rank of Overdeity, they never, ever interfere in each others business otherwise it would completely jeopardise all of reality as we know it. It is unknown whether other beings besides the Eagle and Hawk exist in the void but not outside of possibility.

Hmm, now to think of some lower ranking deity pantheons for the Hawkspace islands, there's probably going to be a lot. So go hogwild I guess.

Something clicked in my head. Etheric Type is the residual dream energy of the "Dreamer" constantly leaking out. What doesn't get used up in the conversion of dream objects and dream creatures to a material state of being can and will leak out to purposelessly wander the worlds. Etheric Type wants to make your dreams come true because it is literally dreams that didn't come true.

I've come up with a name for the 9 month spring-summer hybrid season, it will be indefinitely known as "The Lifetime of Amber". Since there are 9-10 kings it seems like a good idea to file them down to 9 and make the 10th a chosen bird king or something. The 2 months will probably focus on both the Eagle and the Hawk, the season starts with a holiday celebrating the Hawk and concludes with another celebratory day in honour of the Hawk. The last month is probably dedicated to the eventual death and end of the life cycle concerning everyone and everything, because when have months in real life and fiction that were associated with winter were about life? Death is a no brainer.
