It almost looks like a metaphor for humanity, but maybe that's too cynical.
Approach to see if they would block your path. Perhaps this is a test to see how well you can control this body. Like a danger room or an obstacle course. Then again it seems inappropriate to commit violence upon living beings while in a form so similar to HER. Try talking to them, first. It may be possible to simply outmaneuver them, as well.
