Well, since you're getting fish by any means necessary... just become a pirate. Sink other fisher's boats, press gang the crew into your service, or steal the other competitor's fish.
You either have all the fish, have all the competitors in your service, or are the last boat standing. Win win!

Easier said than done, while stealing fish and sabotaging boats is not against the rules, the identities and locations of the other competitors are heavily guarded secrets.
