Pokedraft (Signups for Round 2) - LegendaryQ - 10-13-2018
Hello all! This is Pokedraft, a Pokemon-themed Forum game based around the concept of drafting Pokemon, training them, and pitting them against each other.

Spoiler
This game is played in a loop of events that players participate in. (Note: see bottom of this spoiler for details on stats)
Capture Events
First is the Capture Event. In a Capture Event, a number of Pokemon equal to the number of players participating appear (plus 3 mystery Pokemon if a player wants none of the remaining Pokemon). For each player (in order, from first to last, continuing players ordered by placing in the last Battle Event, then new players first-in-first-out), the following occurs:
- New players start with 10 Pokeballs.
- That player chooses one of the available Pokemon. Players may also choose a top 3 or so early on if they don't want to choose at the moment. If a player doesn't choose, a pokemon is picked randomly of the revealed ones (not the mystery pokemon) for them.
- All players have an opportunity to bid Pokeballs on that Pokemon.
- Once all bids have been taken, pokeballs are thrown at that Pokemon, starting with the player who bid the most pokeballs, and then the next most, etc. This updates with each Pokeball, meaning that once the difference between the 1st and 2nd player has been thrown. (e.g. Player 1 bids 4 Pokeballs and Player 2 bids 2. The balls thrown would be, in order, [1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2]. This means that if you want more balls thrown before anyone else, you have to bid significantly more so those extra balls are thrown first.)
- The player who catches the Pokemon gets the Pokemon and may give them a nickname. Balls that weren't used (even those by the player who won) are returned to their owners.
- This repeats for the next player in order until everyone has elected a Pokemon.
- If all players have elected a Pokemon but there is at least one player without any Pokemon, a mystery Pokemon will be elected and only players without a Pokemon will be able to bid.
Players may hold up to 10 Pokemon in their team. If a player catches an 11th Pokemon, they'll need to retire a Pokemon. Retired Pokemon can no longer fight, when they are retired, they are placed on a scoreboard and reward Pokepoints and items to their player based on their strength, level, battle performance, and rarity. Player pokedexes will be tracked even if Pokemon are retired.
Once all players have a Pokemon and have taken a turn, the next event begins.
Training Events
Second is the Training Event. A Training Event is meant for players to strengthen their Pokemon and their tools to assist their Pokemon. In a Training Event, players each have 3 actions. Possible actions players may do are: - Level up a Pokemon by one. Pokemon are caught at Level 1. Those that can evolve can be levelled to 10. Those with no evolution can be levelled to 20 or until all their stats are maxed out. When a player levels a Pokemon, they increase a stat of their choice by 1/2.
- Evolve a Pokemon. A Pokemon can only be evolved if the player has enough Evolution Points (acquired through battle and searching for items) and the Pokemon is at Level 10. An evolved Pokemon keeps half of the stat boosts it gained from levelling, but has better base stats, and returns to Level 1.
- Search for items. This can find balls, Evolution Points, and other useful items, at random.
Players may also freely trade during this period (the offering player should bold what Pokemon they want and what Pokemon they're giving in return, and the other player should bold that they confirm and agree to their first player's trade.
Once all players have taken their action (or time has run out), the next event begins.
Battle Events
Finally, the Battle Event. In Battle Events, there are two stages, performed privately using PMs:
- When a Battle Event starts, the rewards for placing are revealed. These can range from items, to special chances at rare Pokemon, etc. Better rankings will result in better rewards.
- Players privately choose one of their Pokemon to fight for this Event. If a player has only one Pokemon, they just use that one by default.
- Once all players have chosen a Pokemon, the choices for everyone are revealed. Then, everyone privately chooses one other player's Pokemon to attack, and whether they would like to use a Physical Attack or a Special Attack. If they choose Physical, their Pokemon's Attack stat will be used vs their opponent's Defense. If they choose Special, Special Attack and Special Defense are used.
- Once all players have chosen an attack, attacks play out in order of greatest Pokemon speed to lowest. For best effect, a player should consider type effectiveness and have their Attack stat of choice be greater than their opponent's Defense stat. It is still possible to deal damage to an opponent with a greater Defense stat, but it may not be much. A Pokemon with 0 or less HP by the time they would attack is skipped.
- Results for a Battle Event are ranked from highest remaining percentage of HP left. (This means a Pokemon that was never attacked with a low HP stat beats an attacked Pokemon with a high HP stat.) Percentages are rounded to the nearest one percent. Ties are resolved by higher HP stat, then by higher stat total, then by random draw.
Pokemon Stats
Each pokemon has a set of 6 base stats, HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Base stats are graded from 0.5 to 5 stars, and then players may level their pokemon to improve a stat by .5 star each time. A pokemon's maximum for a stat is five full stars (rounded down) from their base stat. (E.g. a base stat of 1 means a max stat of 6, and a base stat of 2.5 means a max stat of 7)
Example:
Rattata, Normal-type Pokemon

Once the Battle Event ends, another round of signups happens, and the next Capture Event starts. Special events and other surprises will happen interspersed amongst this main gameplay loop. Players who have Pokemon but can't or don't want to participate in the next round of Capturing, Training, and Battling can skip rounds freely, but will need to opt out at the end of the signup period after the Battle Event preceding the round they don't want to join. They won't lose their Pokemon and there are no downsides besides not getting to play for a bit, and can rejoin after.
This thread should be used for players to talk with each other about the game, at any point, and to make decisions for the public portions of the game (pretty much everything that isn't battling). Politics can be a valid tactic in battles, and is allowed.

Spoiler
Additional notes will be added here as time progresses and questions are asked. - Pokemon for this game will be limited to the Kanto 151. If interest is good, after some time I'd be open to bringing in later generations.
- Deadlines will generally be set for any task that requires player input. The deadlines will be shorter for tasks that require a specific person's input, and players are encouraged to enter their selections early.
- There might be shinies, and it might be apparent if one is found.
tl;dr players take turns catching pokemon, player who puts the most pokeballs on the line gets precedence on the pokemon, then you train your pokemon, then battle them for glory and rewards
Credit to Sunspider for providing an easy means of adding sprites to this game!
This game will start with at least 5 players. I intend to start the game 3-5 days after signups die down, assuming we reach at least 5. To join, tell me what color you'll be using as a player (and optionally your Gen 1 trainer type). You can use an HTML code color if you really want to (#RRGGBB)

I would like to "catch all of 'em" please. Sign me up for #969696.
EDIT:
Question 1: Can I pick a Gen 1 trainer type from here?
Question 2: Can it be Cooltrainer? I like to think of myself as a pretty cooltrainer.

Sounds good to me!
RE: Pokedraft (Signups) - Palamedes - 10-13-2018
I will catch them all 10 as FF0000
RE: Pokedraft (Signups) - Thalia V1 - 10-13-2018
I saw this and almost jumped out of my chair. Uhhh so can I be #66CDAA? And maybe a female Birdkeeper. Birds are cool!
RE: Pokedraft (Signups) - LammarWesley - 10-15-2018
Sign me up. I'm a Channeler and #6A5ACD, please.
RE: Pokedraft (Signups) - HunterX55 - 11-08-2018
I’ll join. Colour is #DC143C if you got it, and I’ll be a Gentleman.
RE: Pokedraft (Signups) - LegendaryQ - 11-11-2018
And that's five!
With Hunter, we should have enough players to start the first round of Pokedraft.
Seeing as the gap between the last couple of players was a few weeks, I wasn't really expecting this to happen, so I need to review my notes and spreadsheets to prepare to get things going.
As such, I'm going to set the start date for the first round of Pokedraft as November 18th, 3PM MST, or approximately 8ish days from now.
New signups may join until then, and will be part of the first round. Those that come later will have to wait until the signup period for the second round.
RE: Pokedraft (1ST ROUND STARTS 11/18) - LegendaryQ - 11-18-2018
Round 1.1: Capture Event
It begins! All 5 players are starting the game, so you all get 10 Pokeballs to start with. And what way to better start than to get an opportunity to use them?
The Pokemon for today's event are:
Growlithe, Fire-Type Pokemon (Claimed by LammarWesley)

+ 1 mystery Pokemon if you don't like any of these.
Turn order is Sunspider -> Palamedes -> Thalia V1 -> LammerWesley -> HunterX55.
Sunspider: please nominate one of the above Pokemon. Please also provide a starting bid. You must bid at least one Pokeball, though you may bid up to your max. You have 48 hours, or November 20, 3PM MST, to decide.
Everyone else: You may also submit their nominations or a list of preferences early, though you will have an opportunity to review your choice (i.e. you're not locked in) when it is your turn. Once Sunspider has chosen, you may submit bids. Depending on time remaining to the Nov 20 deadline, a time extension of up to 24 hours may be added to allow bidding.
Non-participants, as always, may also signup to join in Round 2, which will start after this round, or after this event as well as the following Training and Battling Events that are part of Round 1.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - a52 - 11-19-2018
Oh! Somehow I didn't see this when you posted it originally. I'd like to be uhhhhhhhhhh.... a psychic I guess, since there's no grass type trainer in Gen 1 (and barely any anywhere else!). Color me #34038a please.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Sunspider - 11-19-2018
Bid 6 Pokeballs on Jigglypuff please.
(Added a sprite for a52 too! >.o)
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - LegendaryQ - 11-19-2018
Bidding for Jigglypuff has begun and will end on November 20, 3PM MST, or whenever all players have either bid or declined to bid. This post will be updated as players enter bids.
Sunspider: 6 Pokeballs
Palamedes: Pass
Thalia V1: Pass
LammarWesley:
HunterX55: 3 Pokeballs
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - HunterX55 - 11-19-2018
Do we have to bid at least 1 pokeball, or can we just pass?
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - LegendaryQ - 11-19-2018
You can pass (or decline to bid). Passing is good just because it means that we can move forward without having to wait out the timer, but I can't know if someone is passing without them saying.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - HunterX55 - 11-19-2018
Ok then. I’ll pass. Jigglypuffs are too cute for me.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Thalia V1 - 11-19-2018
Pass.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Palamedes - 11-19-2018
Yeah I'm alright. 6 is too rich for me.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - LegendaryQ - 11-19-2018
An aside: you are not required to beat 6 balls, you simply won't be the first player to throw. If you bet 5 balls., the first two balls would be Sunspider's, but then you would get a chance.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - HunterX55 - 11-20-2018
Oh ok. Can I still change? If so, I’ll bid 3 poke balls.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Schazer - 11-20-2018
I'd like to join next round. dark green burglar for me please.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Robust Laser - 11-20-2018
oh i didn't notice you can still join. I'll get in as a a purple Rocker please.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - LegendaryQ - 11-20-2018
Jigglypuff is caught with the first pokeball, that being Sunspider's.
Palamedes, please select a pokémon and bid by Nov 22, 3pm MST.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Palamedes - 11-21-2018
It isn't that I have anything against these pokes, but I've always been a risk taker.
Give me random.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - Palamedes - 11-21-2018
By that I mean mystery, oops.
RE: Pokedraft (Round 1.1: The First Pokemon) - LegendaryQ - 11-21-2018
The mystery pokemon was a Krabby! Bidding is open.
