There’d been a recent trend of game companies embracing the mobile gaming market, and now it was Fortuna’s turn.

No it wasn’t necessarily a new game, but you were still excited. A port could mean new modes, new easter eggs, exclusive content! In making the port, the developers could have coded in any number of changes.

There wasn’t much information leading up to the app’s release, but you just took that as a sign that there was a surprise in store.

So enough waiting— who were you to say no to a surprise?

You open the app and the adventure begins.

[The fortuna menu is on screen. The only option is “start”]
[A popup appears, “CONFIRM: Do you want to purchase the [Start Function] for $4.99? [Yes] [No]”]

You know five dollars for a game isn’t outrageous, but you would have prefered to know what you were getting into. Back when you were downloading it, the app said F2P. Five dollars, last time you checked, was not “free”.

Begrudgingly, you make the payment.

[The popup now reads, “Thank you!”]
[The fortuna menu now has the options “Tutorial”, “New Game”, “Settings”, “Cosmosdex”, “Achievements”, and “Store”]

That’s more like it!

Even though you’ve played the PC version of Fortuna before, you head to the tutorial. A new download means mandatory tutorial anyway, so you might as well review mechanics and get a hang of the layout.

The adventure begins, for real, now!

[Loading screen, tip reads, “Don’t take candy from strange robots. Robots cannot eat. If they are in possession of candy, gently turn them to the nearest workshop to get their essential resource values checked.”]
[Black screen fades to the outline of a Hermes-like shape]

Oh thank gods. I was afraid I’d need to spend hours explaining the game in-depth to you.

Quinn was enamored by stories of Fortuna from a young age, as were most members of their family. Quinn and their siblings would challenge themselves by tracing Fortuna signals and reports from historical crews. They made a promise to reach it someday… However, one by one, Quinn’s family dropped the project. No crew had made it during their family’s lifetime. They claimed it was impossible, but Quinn wouldn’t stand for it. Quinn was tired of waiting.
