nerd out about animals - Gatr - 04-06-2016 Hey so if you don't know me I'm Gatr. That means I like alligators. Although, if it's not obvious, the name is from Feraligatr, who is more of a crocodile. Not that I'm THAT picky about the difference. They're both big chompy lizards, and I like them all equally. Okay, nah, mugger crocodiles are my favorite. But the differences can be interesting for anyone who cares to know. Here's some more facts. Fact: American alligators and Mugger crocodiles are the only two reptiles documented to use tools. This is particularly impressive, considering most scientists have considered them to be evolutionarily stable. They've stayed pretty much the same for 300 million years, apparently (this is just from what i know). Source: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/03949370.2013.858276 Fact: American alligators were originally listed as an endangered species in 1973, and have since become much more populous. They were removed from the endangered species lists in 1987. Source: wiki i guess. this isnt high school, use whatever you want. Fact: There are only roughly 250 Phillippine crocodiles existing in the wild. Fortunately, they are already protected under law, and have been since 2001. Source: wiki again. Fact: There are only 22 distinct species of crocodilians. Share other cool facts about your favorite animals here! This not only shows an adaptability in their diets, but also surprising intelligence, considering they may have picked this behavior up by observing various other animals eating fruit, like tegus.
