Name: Dreamwalkers

Physical description:
Dreamwalkers have no physical existence, instead only existing inside people's minds. While within one's mind they can comunicate with their host as well as appear in their host's dreams taking whatever form they desire. If they have a strong enough bond with the host and/or their host has an unstable mind, they can appear to the host as if they are in physical reality, but this is only an illusion and they cannot actually interact with the environment or be seen by anyone other than the host. Dreamwalkers can also gain some control the host's body, but only if a strong enough bond is formed with the host and the host specifically allows them to do so.

They are able to ride brainwaves to jump from one host to another, but only if the two people are in close physical proximity (their range is about the size of a 5-10 person ship). If the host has a strong enough mind it is possible to force a dreamwalker out of said mind. When evicted due to being forced out or due to the death of the host the dreamwalker will attempt to hop in to the head of another. If they cannot find a mind to enter in time they will quickly die.


Behavior:
Dreamwalkers are a very intelligent race and different dreamwalkers can have very different personalities. Since they rely on their host's cooperation in order to interact with the world, they are forced to either be polite and cooperative with their host so the host is willing to do what they want, or manipulate and trick the host so the host does what they want without realizing it. The latter method is more risky, however, so the majority take the honest route. Some like to play the role of an imaginary friend, while others are more up-front about their true nature. Most of them will tend to stick with a host they like, building up a close bond with them. There is a rare type of dreamwalker known as the aimless dreamwalker who change hosts whenever they wish unlike most dreamwalkers who are trapped in their hosts until eviction or death.


Danger level: Minor to moderate. Most are harmless and they are limited to doing things through their hosts anyway, but more malicious dreamwalkers may try to trick people or stealthily commit psychological abuse or brainwashing.

Habitat: Inside the minds of intelligent species.
