Alternatively, 50 feet of ethernet cable can do no wrong.

It might be worth noting that Whim does have cats.

I actually bought 10 meters of ethernet cable when i switched rooms and passed it through the outside of the house.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Granolaman - 05-29-2013

Cats ≠ rodents. Unless these cats have a history of chewing on cords then it should be fine. I've had an ethernet running across a house with two rambuncous cats for years and there was never a problem.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Stij - 05-29-2013

Yeah, I am currently sitting in a nest of audio/MIDI/power cables that my cats have miraculously ignored for the last couple years.

Swerving right off topic- Does anyone know of a good site to buy a domain name from/on? I want to get one for my comic (which will be hosted on another site, but you can use your own url if you have one). I am a total noob about this and have no idea what i'm doing except for hearing that godaddy is a nightmare so avoid them.

edit: found one! :>

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Isoraķatheð - 05-30-2013

I can see that someone who will have this same problem so many years down the line feeling anguished about the lack of solution.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Infinity Biscuit - 05-31-2013

A lot of people on tumblr were whining about the stuff being move to the bottom but I thought that was actually good move (though the corner flip button letting you go straight to the post should be duplicated down there too)

But adding in unnecessary extra clicks is like day one of design 101 no-nos

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Lankie - 05-31-2013

My guess would be they didn't want people to accidentally hit delete. Though that could easily be solved by just having a window pop up to confirm it or not.

No excuse for the edit key though, that really should be where that 'share' link is.

The new location is more sensible it just broke a lot of addons
Maintaining addons isn't Tumblr's job but half of them are things that should already be features and have been requested repeatedly

Also they seriously broke HTML tags in that you could infinitely increase the size of your text

So, continuing the current conversation from the ftfo thread:

How do you guys feel about cockroaches? I personally can't stand the fuckers and crush them without remorse if they get close, they're gross pests. Oh i also kill mosquitoes from time to time i guess. Other than that i try to go out of my way to avoid killing insects.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Gatr - 06-01-2013

I kill mosquitoes only if they appear to be attracted to my blood, because they're legitimately a threat that way, but everything else I capture and let go. Unless it's a hornet or something, then I wimp out and leave the room, hoping it will also leave.

I totally ignore the small harmless bugs like flies and moths and stuff. Ants are true pests so I have to use chemicals to keep them out.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Schazer - 06-01-2013

I think there's a lot of things to admire about cockroaches, but I'm not gonna complain if you kill them. The ones which end up in your house are pretty gross, and not really something you'd want to voluntarily share your house with.

Unlike spiders (for instance), they scuttle around and make noise, and specifically cohabit places where you keep your food. They are also disease vectors.

Fact Seagull Cockroaches are in the order Blattodea, and comprise about 4,500 species. Their body plan has not been significantly modified by evolution for about 140 million years. 30 of these 4,500 species can be found in human dwellings around the world, and four of these (the German, American, Australian, and Oriental cockroaches) are widespread household pests.

Fact Seagull Termites (which comprise a further estimated 4,500 species) are descendants of cockroaches. Some termite species are also regarded as household pests, weakening wooden structures.

Hah. If you can do this, then you need to have your website shut down until you learn how to properly perform HTML.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Plaid - 06-02-2013

I think spiders are neat; at the moment I'm sharing my desk with one who has taken up residence in a pile of papers that I'm now reluctant to move.

Bugs I will squish are mosquitos and sandflies. Bugs I would like to squish but generally trap and release are regular flies and bees, the latter of which I am completely terrified of thanks to a childhood incident. I consider it a huge amount of progress that I can trap them in a glass now instead of leaving the room and whimpering. :B

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Kitet - 06-02-2013

I catch and release pretty much anything that isn't a fly, except for the exceptionally tiny spiders that I find running up and down a wall every day or so
they're kind of hilarious
they seem like they're scared all the time, which they probably are
I'll just be typing like I am right now and then, out of the corner of my eye, a tiny screaming arachnid flies up the wall

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Mehgamehn - 06-02-2013

Depends on my mood honestly, but I tend to let spiders go

Roaches and Ants though, never any mercy. I let mice be out of a sense of fairness, as they gotta dodge traps and Cat.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Jacquerel - 06-02-2013

There are basically absolutely no dangerous or unpleasant insects that even live in Britain so I can't justify doing anything mean to any of them.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Pick Yer Poison - 06-02-2013

Unfortunately, everyone else in my household gets extremely freaked out by anything that has more limbs than they have fingers on one hand, and then they yell at me to kill it, so I rarely get any choice in the matter. I prefer to catch 'em and let 'em loose, though. (Outside, of course.)

GNATS ARE DEVOURING ME

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - BRPXQZME - 06-03-2013

Tsetse and Dengue are a rap duo so underground they don’t exist.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Jacquerel - 06-03-2013

I'm so underground that I can barely get a wi-fi signal. God, I miss the surface.

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Stij - 06-03-2013

I prefer watching my cats' hilarious, flailing attempts at catching bugs to killing them myself

I'd RT this if I could

RE: This is gonna be the thread where we talk about stuff - Isoraķatheð - 06-03-2013

It reminds me of that one time a fly woke me up at 04:30. By no means pleasant.

I'm too woefully incompetent physically to kill anything, so I just let them be and hope they get caught in the air conditioner.
