RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - x1372 - 09-13-2018 Well, a lot happened when I missed a day. BTW, to those looking at the votal that airey messed with before getting shot, highlight the thing. The votes targeting him and abstaining were all still there, just with a text color of white. Though I'm seriously confused by one thing. Airey was SO sure that Solaris was a SK (or at least that Solaris shot them). Of all the bullcrap Airey spewed... They were somehow actually right about who shot them? Curious how they would know, particularly if the scum tracker died night 1. I guess I wasn't the first to think this, but it'll tie into a new theory I have (lower in this post) Also, hmm. TehPilot was the first to comment on a very... odd set of bits from sleepingorange's posts. I almost started my first day 3 post with a rant about “why would you even say that” before deciding it would be unproductive. Now there's more role hinting going on as a part of that question of beru. Definitely interested to see where this line goes. And um, SleepingOrange is still saying things and hintings or possibilities that really, really bother me. Seriously, why the heck would you be commenting on possibilities of cross-aligned lovers? Palamedes, you seriously don't think that a scum would stay on a scum wagon like tehpilot did for Airey, when the target was clearly floundering? I'll be honest – when Airey was sitting exactly at the soft lynch and responding they way they did, I would have been INCREDIBLY suspicious of anyone taking their vote off Airey. Situation changed as more votes were added (people not wanting to hammer quite yet) but by that point the outcome was barely in doubt. So far I don't have much of a read on NotTheAuthor and Sai. If I had to pick one of the two as the lynch right now it'd probably be NotTheAuthor, only because I had a vaguely town read on Sai from my initial read-through of the thread and had barely any read on NTA. Since you're at soft lynch NTA, I'm hoping you can answer the following questions. 1) How many infiltrators do you suspect are still alive, and if you had to guess what powers they had (based on claims and flips so far), what would you pick? 2) Assume that one or more of our semi-clears (Jacquerel, coldblooded, LordlyHour, granolaman, solaris) is or are, in fact, gambiting scum. Which one(s) and what makes you suspect them over the others? 3) If one of the currently abstaining players (Jacquerel, Robust laser, Numbers, LordlyHour, Schazer) is scum, who do you suspect and why? 4) Are there any interactions between players over the last two days that you find particularly suspicious, either on their own or in light of the events of this day? 5) What do YOU suspect is the current state of play in the game, regarding the scum team and/or possible serial killers? 6) What possible scum team of the currently alive players scares you the most? Why? 7) Imagine we lynch Sai instead of you today. They flip town. Does this change your reads, and if so, on who? 8) You haven't reacted much to reaching softlynch, particularly with so little time left in the day. Is there a reason you're ok with this lynch, or are you just resigned to it? 9) Imagine someone has a Karkat power (or could sacrifice themselves to singlehandedly choose the lynch target today) and was totally sure of your innocence. Who would you recommend they lynch today instead? 10) Well, while I've been catching up and writing this post you ended up past softlynch. Can you please give us whatever reads and information you can before this lynch? Closing remarks to guide town after your flip? To answer and follow up on questions made of me @Sai – I actually had a light townread on coldblooded and a light scumread on jacquerel before today started. Jacq's vote on day 1 bothered me in a way I wasn't quite able to pin down, even with it's explanation. Given the shared claim and explanation, and even more so following the Airey situation, those early reads are now essentially moot. Your post #768 and continued suspicions about granolaman are... intriguing? Odd? I dunno. Look, I'll admit, I'm the type to be super paranoid about mechanical things clearing players. But um, Granola just shot scum. With a day kill. When that scum was as good as lynched. No matter how I can think of it, if granola IS scum, he essentially just put his team a full day behind where they would have been otherwise, because as long as he's not the last scum, if he used that power targeting a townie before he got lynched, that costs the town a full day's lynch compared to shooting a scumbud. Not impossible, but super super risky as a scum gambit. Granola's not COMPLETELY CLEARED FOREVER but that action very heavily favors them as town in my book. Oddly enough, based on voting patterns I thought granola looked kinda scummy, but based on what they'd been saying I'd had the opposite read and was conflicted before they shot Airey. I read your explanation why you think granola HAD to shoot airey if anyone, but you seem way more sure of this than feels justified to me. @palamedes – given the actions of granola and the claimed action of solaris (though with no counterclaim that one's reasonably secure for now), my belief in a standard 1/night town-sided killing role has dropped considerably. That said, I'm still not totally convinced there's a serial killer at all – LegendaryQ's target could easily have been town allied or scum allied for it's own reasons. The fact that no players died night 2, coupled with our knowledge about targeted players implies that whatever killed LQ didn't get anyone last night. I do have another, potentially worrying theory about that one though. See, in that wall of bluffs that Airey gave before getting shot, they DID end up claiming an amnesiac style role (among many other things). We now know Airey was scum. It's possible that Airey's claim was in fact based on information they had on the scum team. My current theory is that the game did have an amnesiac (possibly LQ's target) who got to murder a player night 1 and assume their role. If that's the case, Pharmacy's tracker role may indeed still be something the scum team has access to, with a different player having taken that role. This could potentially explain Airey's tunnelling on Solaris for shooting them. If that IS the case, then there's at least one member of the current scum team who the day 1 conversation and votals won't help us pin down. I acknowledge that there are probably plenty of holes in this theory (namely, assuming something based on the squirming claims of caught scum) but if we don't see another corpse with the same sort of death as pharmacy tonight, it's likely to remain my guess going forward. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 Man, I’ve been sure I’ll die since like day 2, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about not dying when everything everyone’s said about me is essentially correct. Like, I’d rather be dramatic tomorrow morning, if you’ll give me a pass this time? Which isn’t likely to happen, but, you know. I am town, not 3P, for whatever that’s worth, and I’m pretty confident we got one or more scum on this wagon, but, like. Only way to confirm is to flip me, innit? So, y’know, it’s whatever. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - SleepingOrange - 09-13-2018 I only commented on the possibility of cross aligned lovers because it was something that was brought up in the thread and it's literally the only reasonable possibility I can think of where a flip on one of us would not be a clear on the other. It was just acknowledging the very remote possibility that had been floated and saying that it really was very remote and isn't the case. It feels reasonable to me to point out that there are a lot more town explanations for what I've said and what we've done than scum ones, but you're probably right in that excess speculation about it and arguing in our defense is not very helpful. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 @x1372 you’re giving me a lot more credit than I deserve, which I appreciate, but. You know. Again, at work, so even though I wanna give answers there’s not really time to. It sucks, I know, but it is what it is. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 Am kinda disappointed in some-a y’all wagoning on me just to wagon, like. Y’all want drama? Y’all could at least get us both to soft, have some kinda wagon race, hah. Enough of has don’t seem to have concrete opinions that this just reeks of mob mentality, which, like, great job being tools for the scum team? Yer all doin grate, there RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 *enough of yas, not has RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Coldblooded - 09-13-2018 (09-13-2018, 09:36 PM)x1372 Wrote: »My current theory is that the game did have an amnesiac (possibly LQ's target) who got to murder a player night 1 and assume their role. Amnesia scum is an interesting possibility, but I think it's worth remembering that Airey was accusing Solaris of being the SK even back on D2. Another theory could be that scum has a role/flavorcop who found a bunch of knives or something in Sol's room and made assumptions that Sol was the SK based on that. OR..... Pharmacy tracks Solaris N1 only to witness her own death, and her surviving scummates find out about it in the postmortem report. (This one only works if Solaris is actually lying about being a one-shot vig, but we might be able to narrow down some of these possibilities in future days once we have a better idea of how many kills are flying around each night.) RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Solaris - 09-13-2018 thats closer to what i want but still not enough! maybe if this was the whole day you'd get to go out on an exciting bang but hey, we can't all have votal altering powers that leads to someone kicking you into a shark tank RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 Look, Sol, all I can really do is promise that things will be More Fun for Everyone if I remain alive. If Sai flips town I’ll be legitimately surprised, but you’re all still welcome to off me in the night, or vig me come morning, or whatever. Like, this is definitely a mistake, but it’s a mistake I dunno how to convince y’all not to make, y’know? RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Not The Author - 09-13-2018 Like, I’m only at six! We got four hours! If just two people swap from me to Sai, we’ll be golden! It’ll be sus as hell, especially if Sai somehow flips town, but still! As things stand, this is, in my very specific opinion, wasting a perfectly good lynch. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Granolaman - 09-13-2018 "More Fun" definitely sounds like more fun! Join the Sai wagon today and reap the rewards of toppling the Blazergate Conspiracy! Rock the Vote! RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - Palamedes - 09-13-2018 Alright, some light posting time! @x, I thought I explicitly said I saw reasons why scumPilot would vote for Airey and keep the vote there? More or less for the reasons you gave. I'm more than happy to swap to lynch Sai but I'm just not certain it's going to happen? The only other major thing that hasn't been covered yet with them though is I think they mentioned scum might have gotten Pharmacy's powers and then dropped some hints that they could confirm visits or something, which if Sai is scum is either pretty ballsy or a pretty notable slip. Unless I'm wrong and it was someone else who initially brought that up, which is possible. Also an amnesiac role would be pretty nasty but my current guess is there might be some sort of other pseudo-protective role that got in the way with nobody but the SK knowing that the kill fell through (or Solaris made a very risky lie but as I think I've said before I really really doubt that). RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - x1372 - 09-14-2018 @NotTheAuthor I don't think I'm giving you too much credit asking these questions. If you're town, your thoughts and opinions matter, big time. They're one of the best things we have to work with and consider going forward. Knowing that a proven townie thought something gives us something to talk about, follow up on, and look into as the game progresses toward it's conclusion. These questions may be somewhat haphazard, and some may end up being totally pointless, but the idea is to get you thinking about things a little differently. Heck, if I hadn't been point blank asked about my opinion on the SK situation earlier, I wouldn't likely have spent too much time thinking about it and coming up with a new theory on the matter. I don't know if you can convince people not to lynch you at this point. Realistically, probably not, though by all means please try. But barring that, whatever thoughts and opinions you can voice could be valuable to us after you flip. If you're busy, well, I'd appreciate whatever you can give us. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - x1372 - 09-14-2018 @palamedes my bad, I misread your other post the first time and mentally replaced can with can't. But yeah, that was one thing I was specifically looking for as airey's claims started happening. Do you think that we managed to have a night 2 with 3 bounced kills? Granted, there's PLENTY of situations where people from all sides wouldn't claim kill attempts, but... eh. That possibility is what led to my (thoroughly debunked) earlier theory that something prevented all deaths last night. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Day Three: A Bloody Denouement [16/21] - TehPilot - 09-14-2018 Unvote - a Schazer vote isn't doing anything today anyway. Forgot I had that sitting around. While I'm down to lynch both Sai and NTA, I don't know if I'm feeling convinced enough by the latest responses from our primary lynch target. There's a part of me that says we could definitely get more interesting responses out of Sai tomorrow after getting a flip on NTA under our belts. I'd be curious to see if Sai's input on the gamestate and their scumreads would continue to hold water into D4. Also: it'll take at least one other person besides me and Pala to flip the lynch if we wanted to do that - and I wouldn't be thrilled if we flipped it and Sai turned up town. And we still got plenty of abstainees! Like, I understand where you’re coming from, but You Personally exhibiting This Specific Mentality is the very reason a Sai lynch wouldn’t happen. And there’s multiple people who’ve expressed the same! All’s y’all voting for me because you don’t think a Sai lynch can happen, when we’re not even that far apart in vitals is like... I get it, but also, like, fuck you? There’s no other words there. Fuck you and your cowardly, hypocritical, safe position. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Night Three: Founder's Demise [15/21] - Mirdini - 09-14-2018 Night Three: Founder's Demise Following Airey’s shark feeding, the Assembly quickly settles on two other individuals as prime suspects of being his co-conspirators. The argument of who out of Sai and Not The Author to lynch is hotly contested, but in the end Sai’s greater contributions to the debate and Not The Author’s combative stance sealed the latter’s fate. As he was forcibly dragged up to the railgun by the mob, Not The Author was defiant and uncooperative, and it took several Assembly members’ efforts to wrangle him into the RAILGUN CHAMBER. “Fuck all of you and your cowardly, hypocritical, short-sighted decisions. I was going to change the world, all of humanity, for the better! You’ve doomed my efforts, and thereby set us all back a good century. I hope you’re fucking satisfied, you thoughtless, bloodthirsty mob. AND FURTHERMO-” The RAILGUN CHAMBER clangs shut, muffling the rest of his ranting to an indistinguishable buzz. TehPilot stands over the button, glancing around for approval before doing their duty. WHAM Shortly thereafter, the Admin Core’s display lights up green once again. Stock Photo Pending File Photo Retrieval Not The Author was Dr. Lucian Julius Mandragora, SCIENTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE AND MONOMIN FOUNDER. As one of Monomin’s founding members, Dr. Mandragora’s pioneering vision and relentless drive to expand the boundaries of human knowledge was the impetus that drove Monomin far beyond mere military hardware development and industrial research. Several ethical… missteps had led to his not-entirely-voluntary recruitment, but he’d made the most of the situation, leading Monomin to be the premier research institution in the world. While administrative duties took up some time—too much time—he also found space to pursue his own research interests, chief among them the technology he perceived to have the single greatest utility to the future of humanity: quantum entaglement and the possibility of faster-than-light communications. He was about a year into a groundbreaking project when the INCIDENT began, and it constituted an unacceptable interruption to his vital work. Thankfully for Lucian, his private lab was directly connected to the Admin core – all he had to do was come up with distractions that would allow him to sneak into his lab during the night to get some actual work done. It wouldn’t do to allow these nefarious INFILTRATORS knowledge of or—science forbid—access to his research. Not the Author’s role action was called RELEASE THE KRAKEN. Each night he could INVENT BONUS NIGHT FLAVOR that would appear during (and influence all night action flavor during) the following night. As a MONOMIN FOUNDER and COMMITTED SCIENTIST (who hated this distraction from his own work) he was aligned with the MONOMIN RESEARCH FACILITY STAFF and would have won when they defeated the INFILTRATORS and any other threats to Monomin, thereby ending the INCIDENT. The Assembly, dumbfounded that that had been the famed and famously reclusive Dr. Mandragora, retreats to their quarters once more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NIGHT THREE has begun! Please have your actions in in your Quicktopics or over Discord in the next 48 HOURS, so by 4am CET on Sunday, September 16. The plumbing emergency failsafes had been reinstated by Monomin’s diligent automated cleanup systems over the past day, and blood was almost nowhere to be seen. Unfortunately for those systems, the late Dr. Mandragora had had other things in mind. They fail. Again. The halls fill with blood, again, but not quite so much; just enough to create a nice, humid layer for the next part of his next brilliant scheme. Ribbit. Monomin’s Naturally Selected Ecological Watchforce had its beginnings in an attempt to create a decentralized biological hive-mind species that could function as a global ecological assessment and information relay. The most popular species in development was the noble frog, thus the project’s nickname, FrogNet. While development had stalled at the reproduction hurdle, the ongoing nature of the project meant that Monomin maintained a healthy supply of test subjects up until the start of the program, test subjects who were raised in captivity and thus associated humanoid figures with care, comfort, and food. Of course, these friendly hoppers needed a somewhat more humid environment than the regularly controlled climate of Monomin, thus the blood, again. Which means whoever decides to leave their quarters on this night of the INCIDENT will be confronted with a nice ankle-deep layer of BLOOD, far more traversable than last night. The swarm of FROGS that mobs anyone it sets its sights on proves somewhat more troublesome, but due to a distinct lack of dangerous varieties still not enough of one to dissuade any of the Assembly out on nighttime excursions. After all, if all the halls are filled with blood AND frogs, no-one’s going to be able to make sense of the mess in the morning. Monomin’s blood-swamp halls have been OCCUPIED BY MARAUDING FROG SWARMS in the night! Niall has replaced Numbers! Night actions are all locked in! Please hold for day start SOON. RE: The Wander Island Incident - Night Three: Founder's Demise [15/21] - Mirdini - 09-20-2018 Day Four: LOST AND FOUND ELECTION BONANZA Thunderous ribbiting aside, dawn over Monomin is a mostly peaceful affair. Members of the Assembly wake up, stretch their arms, head towards the Admin Core through a thin pool of blood, the usual. Unfortunately for Sai, this is soon followed by the unusual. BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM Gunshots ring out in Monomin’s halls, and by the time the first Assembly participants make it to their source, they’re too late. Sai’s corpse lies facedown in a pool of their and don’t-ask-where-all-of-it-came-from-mystery blood. Shell casings are brushed aside and it’s quickly (if gingerly, because of all the blood) carried to the Admin Core’s BODY IDENTIFICATION CHUTE, which duly spits out some results. Sai was Elissa, TELEPORTATION RESEARCH FANATIC. She had dedicated her entire life to solving one scientific conundrum: that of TELEPORTATION. Ever since she first saw people ‘beaming’ on and off planets on tv as a child in the rural Midwest, her dream had been to make that fiction a reality. So obsessed was she with that dream that she’d discarded her last name at the age of 14 – once she was done, no-one would need to look up her last name to know who she was! Her precocious nature and singular devotion caused her a troubled youth, yet she still managed to graduate from high school two years early. Academia didn’t suit her, and unorthodox reclamation methods to fuel her research made sure she never got her PhD. One particular research trip ended with her standing in state court for Grand Larceny, Involuntary Manslaughter and an Attempt to Abduct a Household Pet. Despite her protestations that Governor Dang Ron Paul’s poodle would have wanted to become world famous as the FIRST TELEPORTING DOG and that she was sorry about dropping a toolbox on his parakeet’s bodyguard, the judge didn’t quite see it her way. Having turned 18 the previous week didn’t help her prospective sentence much. On her way to prison for a minimum of ten years, she was pleasantly surprised when the armored van transporting her ‘happened’ to hit a bump in the road and crash through the highway guardrail, somehow knocking everyone else in the van unconscious. The paramilitary types that picked her up mentioned that they’d seen her research notes and offered her unlimited funding if she worked in some remote science wonderland, and she happily came along. After that she spent three years refining prototypes in Monomin, chasing the high of SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS. She saw the INCIDENT as a glass half full: while she was locked out of her lab, she could use two of her prototype WARP BADGES to gather some great data with a little hands-on experimentation. Sai’s role action was called CHANGE PLACES! Every night, she could choose two players. Any actions targeting one of those players would instead target the other. This action-swapping lasted for that night and through the following day phase. It did not affect the lynch. She could not target herself with the action. Sai was also an ASCETIC. Due to her long history of self-experimentation with quantum mechanics and plane-shifting, she was incredibly spatially unstable. As a result, other players can only target her if they did so with KILLING INTENT. If a player targeted her with a non-killing action, they would be informed that their action failed and any limited resources invested in said action would be refunded. Since she obviously wanted to continue working at Monomin and finalize her years’ worth of research when it was all over, she was against the infiltration by whatever science-hating scum caused the lockdown and imminent nuclear meltdown. As such she was aligned with the MONOMIN RESEARCH FACILITY STAFF and would have won when they defeated the INFILTRATORS and any other threats to Monomin, thereby ending the INCIDENT.
