The only context I'm giving is that all these quotes are from the same source.

Quote:Forged from the finest materials that the lowest bidder had in stock when we called
Quote:It's designed for millenials, and their modern millenial lifestyle, as they milleniate through the millenium. Also designed for old people, because they actually have money.

I am going to have to give it to you, because it is just too good not to share.

BUT THE REASON I CAME ACROSS IT IS EVEN BETTER

There was a question in a past paper for Nonlinear Systems that had you look at a few different examples of chaotic behaviour, fairly standard stuff, EXCEPT FOR THE VERY LAST PART

WHERE THEY GAVE YOU A MAP YOU HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE

"Consider the Arnold cat map T [...]. Illustrate the action of T by sketching the action of 1 iteration of T applied to the picture A given in Fig. 2."

PICTURE A GIVEN IN FIGURE 2 WAS A CAT

THERE WAS A PICTURE OF A CAT IN AN OXFORD MATHS EXAM

THE QUESTION ASKED YOU TO THEN DRAW ANOTHER PICTURE OF A CAT (ALBEIT INCREDIBLY MANGLED)

AND ACCORDING TO THE EXAMINER'S REPORT ONLY 8 OUT OF 38 PEOPLE ATTEMPTED IT

"One thing that surprised me was that very few students attempted Question 3 even though it was (in my mind) no more difficult and no more time-consuming than the other 2 questions." DAMN RIGHT YOU'RE SURPRISED YOU LITERALLY GAVE THEM A CAT PIC HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO YOU

"and one student came *really* close to getting the whole thing, which is great to see for a part of a problem that is intended to be challenging." WELL THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT ONE PERSON WHO HAD THEIR HEAD SCREWED ON RIGHT

MORE EXAM NEED TO INCLUDE ADORABLE KITTEN PICTURES OH MY GOODNESS

(anyway I do now need to go and try this question out instead of telling basically everyone I think would be interested about it)

(also I think the exam stress is beginning to get to me can you tell?)

RE: Things, and no context. - Sruixan - 05-13-2016

UPDATE: the cat did not survive the map.

(also I can see why people did not do this now; figuring that out from scratch was slow, and the previous part of the question was a right pain in the arse)

I'll take it.

(also the phrase "UPDATE: the cat did not survive the map" could and should have been a standalone submission to this thread)

RE: Things, and no context. - Kíeros - 05-13-2016

I actually had that image in one of my textbooks. The teacher didn't assign that problem, which sounds like it was probably smart of them.

ANYWAY

(so happy that I am posting this from the class itself)

(I am also bored, if you can't tell)
