RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Solaris - 05-23-2013 Wait so the place you are going to go for the JET just so happens to be where the family registry was? That's really neat and almost silly. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Pinary - 05-25-2013 The DM only has that one location mapped out. You're being railroaded into going there so the plot can get started. (If you wish to antagonize your DM, avoid any and all taverns and do your best to avoid joining a party.) The DM ought to have known better. This was certainly a group where the goal was to give the DM a headache. I will call him Chávez, as that was his name. Now, Chávez had a scenario from the Internet. The adventure began with a wizard approaching the party, entreating them for aid. You can guess where the party told the wizard he could shove it. Chávez scanned quickly up and down the scenario sheet. RIIIIIIIPPP RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Stij - 05-25-2013 Hahaha, I remember during my first RPG session (Star Wars) we ended up unintentionally screwing up the GM's entire scenario. A mysterious guy came by our characters' house and asked if we were with a shipping company - which we were supposed to be, but the GM never explicitly told us that. So my character told the guy "Er, no," and the GM had to make up a new plot out of whole cloth on the spot. To his credit, we didn't even realize until afterward! dammit now I miss playing tabletop games in middle/high school RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Infinity Biscuit - 05-26-2013 If you can find a GM who can improvise something at least partially as good as the prescripted stuff and doesn't try to prevent you from avoiding the preplanned stuff, deliberately or not, hang onto them very hard. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Plaid - 05-27-2013 Just had a big relationship talk with the boyfriend about polyamory and boundaries and it went really well! Which i figured it would because we're both pretty good about talking about stuff reasonably, but it's still a relief. Also yaaaay i can smooch ladies RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Crowstone - 05-27-2013 Plaid :3 -- So I was going to graduate from community college this spring with a Computer Gaming and Simulation associate's degree... but when I applied for graduation, it turns out I haven't met most of the requirements for that degree. The courses that the counselors have advised me to take are actually part of the Computer Science track. (gaming and simulation is video game design, which is not really what I wanted to learn in the first place) So they're at least competent enough to advise me with an actual major, but no one realized that there are still 8 credit hours of computer science electives I still need to take. I could have handled those requirements earlier, but instead I've just been filling up my spare time with higher level math, useless for a computer science degree. But this way- I have something to do over this summer before I transfer to university, by completing those new requirements. I get my associate's degree in computer science, and those math courses I've taken aren't going to be useless after all, because that means I don't have to take them at university, which is more expensive! I even have a job- three hours a week and barely above minimum wage, but at least it's something~ everything is working out it's so great~ RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - BRPXQZME - 05-28-2013 That’s a happy accident! Most people I’ve seen get advised into the wrong things just get into the actual wrong things :\ ______ So I have acquired calipers. My inner M’aiq is pleased. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - MaxieSatan - 05-31-2013 I've scored two job interviews, which has made me feel really good. The first one is tomorrow and I'm super-pumped. Also my Francis York Morgan tie arrived today! I am one buzzcut, one Starbucks drink and one cigarette or cigarette substitute away from actually finally finishing a cosplay. The smart/obvious/typical thing to do would be to politely instruct your players that no, actually, you guys are a shipping company. It takes a special kind of DM to just go with it and redo the entire campaign from scratch in the middle of a session. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Stij - 06-01-2013 Since it was the first time anyone in our party had RP'd, I think he was trying to be accommodating. And the "new plot" just basically involved us dicking around Mos Eisley and getting into fights with the mob... which, to be fair, is probably how our session would have went anyway, knowing the people I played with. I still felt really bad when I realized what I had done afterward haha RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Infrared - 06-03-2013 So, i received a really heartwarming e-mail from my therapist, i can't really explain what exactly is that makes it so endearing. The message itself is nothing different from what we usually talk about. I guess it's the fact that she doesn't use the internet very often and the e-mail is full of little emoticons, it's like a little kid that doesn't know how to do something so they ask an adult to help them so they can make a gift for someone else, it's so innocent and sincere. She also offered to lower the price for her services to help me out, and while it could seem like a business tactic like "if i don't do this i might lose this guy" but i'm unable to mistrust her at this point. God, have i ever talked about this woman before? She's fucking amazing and smart and so open minded. One day she showed me a picture of her cute tattoo that a guy who supposedly looked just like me did to her, another day she told me a story about one time she explained to her little kids about how a trans woman was actually a woman; it's just so... refreshing to actually know and interact with an actual nice person in real life, it contrasts so much against the poisonous or indifferent people i interact with every day. I can't really explain what's so poignant about her. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Anomaly - 06-03-2013 After more than a month of waiting, my laptop is finally back! I can now run Photoshop or Minecraft for more than five seconds without my computer screaming and glowing red hot. Still no idea what caused it to break in the first place, but presumably it won't happen again. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Crowstone - 06-05-2013 ed i really like your therapist :3 RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - AgentBlue - 06-06-2013 i was never allowed earrings bwahahaha you can't boss me around mom RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Schazer - 06-07-2013 I bought a nice pair of boots a couple months ago, and have been getting good (if periodic) mileage out of them until one of the heels fell off somewhere and I kept making a clopping noise every other step. They were my best option to wear to this JET seminar today, so I stopped by the shoe store I got 'em from because I'm looking for good work shoes anyway. The lady at the shop took my boots, my details, and will be in touch by Tuesday after they come back from the tailor re-heeled. No charge. She also picked out a pair of nice calf-length boots and had to patiently explain to me that no, I didn't have to pay for these and could pick up a store credit later if they weren't quite what I wanted. Excellent customer service is excellent. I was planning to buy another pair of shoes from there anyway (finding properly-fitting shoes for foreigners in Japan is hard, yo) so I'm very happy this worked out. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Plaid - 06-26-2013 I'm leaving for Europe in less than 12 hours! Yaaaaaaay i'm terrified I'm going to keep a travel blog thing for everyone back home to see what i'm up to, so if you dudes are interested it is here. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Whimbrel - 06-26-2013 skreeee Have a great trip Plaid! <3 <3 <3 RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Solaris - 06-28-2013 In what is a welcome change to various other shitthings, i got a raise today!!!! People at work like me for some reason, i am almost a functional human. Wow. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Pick Yer Poison - 06-28-2013 Yaaaaay! Nice :3 RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Schazer - 06-30-2013 The small satisfaction of punching out a decent-sized email in Japanese. Oh also I have placement deets finally and I am heading to sunny Miyazaki, more specifically in the idyllic town of Kobayashi. 40,000 people. National parks everywhere. So fucking pumped. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Infinity Biscuit - 06-30-2013 "Idyllic town" Has population that would put it as second biggest city in my state Living in Maine skews my perspective on a lot of things, I think. I'm glad all that stuff got worked out! RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - AgentBlue - 07-01-2013 Old news now, but I kicked out my asshole roommate! His stuff is gone, he ate all the chocopies before he left, and put my shoes on the carpet (I explicitly forbade shoes on the carpet. Somehow, I'm not surprised), but he's *gone*! Also I have food. Food is good. RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Pick Yer Poison - 07-01-2013 Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Wonderful things! RE: Good News Everyone!!! (The joysplosion thread) - Schazer - 07-30-2013 My unpaid sick+holiday leave came through; I was expecting 500 bucks or something. I got 1200 dollars. |
